March OMG

Hello!

Wow! It’s already March, where did February go?

For March’s One Monthly Goal link up with Elm Street Quilts I decided to make Thimble Blossom’s Swoon pattern. I’ve had it for a while but haven’t gotten around to it. I’m making the 16″ Swoon and will be making it into a passage quilt. My goal is to get the top done this month and to the longarm quilter. I purchased a fat quarter bundle several years ago and just found a good background fabric for those fat quarters. I chose two fat quarters for each Swoon block plus the background. Here are my fabric selections.

I really like this fabric but it turned out to be not quite my style. It will make a beautiful passage quilt. As of today, I had cut out all six blocks and they are ready to go.

This past week I went to the coast with my husband for a couple days. I didn’t take any sewing so when we got back I was itching to do something. Instead of finish a quilt, I started a new project. Oops! I made a pillow from Carl Hentsch’s book, New York Beauties & Flying Geese. I really love all the quilts and corresponding pillows. Although I’m not ready to tackle a quilt yet, this is the third pillow I’ve made from this book. The first pillow I made was fairly complex with four arcs of flying geese but if you follow the instructions, it’s not that hard. This wasn’t my first time paper piecing or sewing curves so having prior experience really helps. I wanted to feature a part of a panel my LQS had as the center of the pillow so I kept everything else simple. I practiced my quilting and quilted the pillow top but left the sides and back alone. Here it is all finished.

That’ll do it for this week. I hope to get my One Monthly Goal done this week and move on to a couple more passage quilts. I heard from the hospital that they are still actively in need of quilts and don’t have enough of a stockpile so I have a couple kits I’ve made and can pull those to make up some quick quilts for them.

Happy Quilting!
