Welcome to my blog on WordPress. I’ve recently switched platforms and hope this will be my permanent home for my blog. I’m still in the process of moving old blog posts over but wanted to write a quick post to let you know what I’ve been doing.
I’ve started a new project that is near and dear to my heart. I have some old postcards that I received from my Grandmother as a child when they would go on their summer vacation to the Sierra Nevada mountains in northeastern California. They’d haul their trailer up and stay at The Willows just outside the small town of Bridgeport, CA. My sister and I would go up for about one week after school got out but the rest of June and July it was my grandparents’ respite from the rest of the world. From reading my grandmother’s diaries, they thoroughly enjoyed their time up there and that was when she would write the most in the diary. She noted when they would start getting ready for the trip, what hiking they did and where, and their occasional trips over to Carson City for a little bit of gambling.
So my current quilt project is using an alphabet pattern from From Blank Pages to recreate verbatim one of my Grandmother’s postcards to me. The postcard is from 1995 and let’s me know that Sonora Pass is closed and we’ll have to find somewhere to go sledding and the Walker River is high and roiling.
I’ve started with the letter A and have 13 to make and I’ll go on to the next letter and so forth and so on until I have all the letters, numbers, and punctuation done. Then on to assembly!
Happy quilting!
Camille
Can’t wait to see more letters!

What a wonderful project! I am eager to see the quilt. Will you be working on it at retreat?

I don’t think I’ll be working on it at retreat. I tried foundation paper piecing last year and it took too much concentration. There was a lot of activity and I got distracted easily 😛

Are you using Marje’s Painless Paper-Piecing method? 🙂

No, I’ve been sewing through the paper.
