Oops! Well things got really busy last week and I missed a bunch of days for blogging for the challenge. Trying not to be too hard on myself. I was busy and something had to give. Today I’m sharing my make for the Corvallis Modern Quilt Guild holiday swap last Thursday. Every year the guild meets at a restaurant for the holiday party and does a swap. This is the first year I participated in it and it was a lot of fun. My partner asked for a complex tote bag or table topper. I went with the tote bag. I used Threadhead and Company’s Awesome Sewing and Travel Tote pattern. I have had this pattern for a while but what really drew me to it was seeing it on Instagram. On Instagram I follow Kristy of @rockbabyscissors and she’s made quite a few of these totes for sale in her business. Seeing hers is what drew me to try it out, just needed the perfect opportunity. It turned out way better than I thought it was going to. I was so nervous about the vinyl on the bottom of the bag but it all worked out fine. I’m glad to say it was well received and will be useful to the recipient.
The guild member I gave to had my name for the holiday swap and I asked for a simple tote bag and an ornament. I received the cutest English Paper Pieced batik ornament and machine quilted tote bag. Christina Cameli did a workshop for our guild and my swap partner had used the skills she learned in that workshop to quilt my bag. It turned out well and I love the quilting pattern and bag.
