Quilting Away

Hello!

After working on improv studies for a while, I thought I needed sort of a palette cleanser before diving into a bigger improv project. I wanted something relatively easy to put together so I decided on making the I Heart You quilt. This quilt pattern is a collaboration between Then Came June and Pen + Paper Patterns. I’ve had this quilt on my to make list for quite a while. I finally pulled fabrics and dove in. The hearts didn’t take long to to come together and I finished the quilt this past weekend at a quilting group I go to. We get to spend Saturday and Sunday sewing and you can leave your machine and project set up overnight Saturday night so no need to clean up and then haul everything back on Sunday. I enjoy all the people in the group and I took cupcakes to celebrate my upcoming birthday. The lemon poppy seed cupcakes were a hit.

Here’s a quick look at the I Heart You blocks. They are hearts inside of talk bubbles and I think it’s the cutest thing ever. I was hoping to finish it for Valentine’s Day but didn’t quite make it but I finished the top in the month of February so I call that a win. It’ll be ready for display on my couch during the month of February next year.

The other project I kind of distracted myself with is to start on some banners. I really love Happy Sew Lucky’s patterns and the graphic elements and bold colors used. I decided to make the Peace + Love banners for my mom, sister, and myself. The pattern comes in three sizes so I am making all three sizes. I did get the smallest banner together and need to lightly quilt it and turn it into a banner. The other two are awaiting me to finish the peace sign block so I can put them together. I used Tula Pink fabric for the background and Ruby Star Society Starry prints for the elements.

The above pictures are really big and I can’t seem to figure out how to make them smaller so it is, what it is.

Next week, I think it’s back to improv after I finish up these couple of projects. I’m hoping to deliver my I Heart You quilt to the longarm quilter this Friday, when I see her at a quilt show. The longarm quilter is my mom. I have a decision to make on backing so we’ll see what I choose. The first option is a solid medium pink that is a different shade from the other pinks in the quilt or a Ruby Star Society strawberry print on a teal background. I’ll share the finished quilt when I get it back.

Happy creating!

Camille
