Hello!
I mentioned in an earlier blog post on 1/1/25 that I was doing a declutter challenge. I mostly stuck to the task each day. Some days were harder than others. I’m still applying the suggestions and ideas of what to declutter to certain areas of my sewing room.
Today I went through the last 3 plastic totes of fabric that I hadn’t put my eyes and hands on in what felt like years. Some stayed and a bit went into a “I don’t want” plastic tote. My sister is going to look through the different fabrics before they are donated somewhere.
Below is a picture of the plastic tote. It’s not filled to the brim but it’s getting there. It felt great to go through those last 3 totes and make hard decisions. I kept a couple things that I questioned a little but we’ll see if I use it within the next 6 months when I go through the fabrics again. I also started to organize solids into their own plastic tote because I’m going to be using them more with improv quilting. Cotton woven fabrics already have their own drawer in a rolling cart and I’ll be using more of those, too.

The Declutter Challenge started 1/1 and finished 1/21. It was a great way to look at my space and decide what is trash, what doesn’t belong, do I need this in different categories of my space. If you’re interested in doing the challenge on your own, you can find the blog posts on the Just Get It Done Quilts website and on YouTube. Since I skipped a couple days or had other things going on, I have some items to catch up on but will do them sometime in the next week.

One thing I’m proud of is getting rid of my magazines. They are mostly quilting magazines but I had a handful of Cloth, Paper, Scissors and I was hanging onto them in the event that I was going to try some of the projects in the magazine. I do have a stash of mixed media supplies and I’m going to have to go through those soon because they’re taking up too much space. I plan to keep the watercolor supplies because I’ve dabbled in it for a couple years and find it enjoyable and relaxing. I combine the watercolor paints with drawn elements (they’re really scribbles) in a waterproof pen. We’ll be going on a trip this spring and I’m going to take the watercolors and a small pad of watercolor paper so I can try my hand at en plein air painting.
Happy creating!
Camille
