Hand Stitched Studies

Hello!

On a whim, I decided to try some small hand stitched studies on denim. My initial goal was to make a couple flannel backed denim coasters. They turned into what I feel is so much more.

To start things off, I pulled a novelty fabric that had roller skates on it from Ruby Star Society and added in fabrics that I liked. I stitched the fabric elements down with a basic whip stitch and then added embroidery. My embroidery isn’t too fancy and I think I’d like to add some more embroidery to this one.

I like my second attempt so much better. At first I thought I had overdone the embroidery but I like it and that’s all that matters. The main focal point was the circular mountain print and then I also added the horse print. These two fabrics by FIGO fabrics really say something to me. Not sure what, but I love them. I did most of my stitching in white, adding French knots, various running stitches, zig zags, and pluses all over the piece.

Will these become coasters? Not sure yet. I think I like the horse and mountain piece a little too much to put my coffee on it.

Happy creating!

Camille
