Hello!
Things have been all over the last two weeks. Starting with a short but bad head cold and finishing with some urgent dental work that needed to be attended to, plus work. Not a lot of time for sewing but I did make a small crossbody bag. It took me several days to make because I took my time and did a little here and a little there.
This crossbody bag is called the Elysian Phone Sling Bag by Bagstock Designs. This pattern is a couple years old but I stumbled upon a tutorial for it on YouTube. I thought it was really cute and would be perfect for an outing where you didn’t need much. I made the bag with some Tula Pink wave fabric and added waxed canvas as the accent on the exterior. I skipped the card slots on the interior and it turns out I needed them. My wallet doesn’t fit in the bag and it’s about half an inch too tall. Oops and oh well. I’ll figure out the wallet thing when I want to use it. I like my wallet so I’m not likely to make this my everyday bag.
The designer has a helpful post on Instagram where she gives instructions for enlarging the bag to 120%. I may make it again at the larger size in a different color palette.
I took a couple photos of the bag when I finished it. It was 9:30pm at night so the lighting is less than desirable. I think when I started this blog, I mentioned I was a terrible photographer despite having a nice camera phone. I may have slightly improved but still have work to do in that area.

The front of the bag has a flap with a magnetic snap, the back of the bag has a zipper pocket, and the main compartment of the bag zips closed. I like a bag that zips closed at the top. I’ve lost a couple things because my purse was hanging open and stuff fell out. You’ll notice there’s no strap because I haven’t made it yet. This bag was also made with things I had in my sewing room so I didn’t have to wait for supplies to arrive. I just happened to have a set of 3/4″ hardware which isn’t a typical size for me to have on hand, turquoise zipper tape with zipper pulls, and the fabrics.
Hopefully, I’ll get back to improv sewing this weekend and have something else to show. I’ve been looking at improv leaf quilts and have found one photo that’s sparked my interest. I’d like to make a couple tester blocks of my version. It’s not completely improv because I think it’s mostly rectangles except for the leaf curve. No instructions to go with the photo on Pinterest so I’ll have to wing it.
Happy creating!
